The undertaking of social responsibility has represented an important component of the corporate philosophy of E/D/E for many years. And the E/D/E wants to actively participate in the design of training courses.
The E/D/E is a co-partner of the first children’s and youth university in Germany of Bergisches Landes gGmbH. Children and young people, especially from underprivileged layers of society, are provided with technical and scientific knowledge here on a voluntary basis. Supporting the children's and youth university is a special issue for the E/D/E. This is because the motto of the institution “Children are our Future!” allows the company to practice what it preaches. The objective of the Junior Uni is to allow children and young people to research and learn playfully.
The Schülersternwarte [Students’ Observatory] project is linked with the Junior Uni. Among other things, the E/D/E supports the telescopes necessary for astronomic observations.
With the Gymnasium Bayreuther Straße in Wuppertal-Elberfeld, the Applicant Training Day took place this summer for the fourth time. The entire Year 12 spent the day training for the transition from school to degree course or profession. Above all, the qualified feedback discussions were appraised by students, parents and teachers as being very helpful and valuable. The important factor here is the internal collaboration of E/D/E apprentices, who helped to prepare the content for the Applicant Training Day and carried this out themselves in some cases. This promotes integration within the company.
With the Gymnasium Schwelm and Gymnasium Gevelsberg, Career Orientation Days are also carried out during the year with the Year 12 students. The E/D/E presents itself and also explains the focal points of the content of vocational training courses and job titles. Here as well, E/D/E apprentices have independent tasks.
In 2008 and 2009, a project lasting several days entitled “How do the Forceps get to the Hardware Store?” was carried out with the commercial college of the Europaschule in Wuppertal-Barmen. In a type of business game, the students had the task of delivering a product from purchasing, through marketing, to distribution into the sales department. In this way, the young people learned how to understand the distribution chains of products in a very practical way.
Before the decision about student work experience placements at the various secondary schools in the region, E/D/E offers Career Orientation Days. Grades 8 and 9 (ages 13-15) are invited to these events to find out information about vocational training courses and the pertinent internships.
At the Wilhelm-Kraft-Gesamtschule in Sprockhövel, the E/D/E participated in a Career Information Exchange in March 2010. And the company also had an information stand at the Vocational Training Exchange in the town hall in Wuppertal in October 2010.
