Corporate success makes it possible for the E/D/E to undertake social responsibility. In doing so, the focus of donations and support is on children and young people in need as well as facilities for children in Wuppertal.
As well as many donations, the E/D/E is proud of being able to support the developmental association of the Station Natur und Umwelt environmental education facility in Wuppertal. From the connection with the city and with a fixed certainty of enabling a good and right project to be carried out, the E/D/E has donated a total of over €1 million for the new construction of the Station Natur und Umwelt environmental education facility. This new building was ceremoniously opened at the end of May 2010. The objective of the Station is to provide training and education about the environment, particularly in the (nursery) age in an environment which makes “living nature” possible. The project fitted ideally into the sponsorship portfolio of the E/D/E. It represented a project with which a wide effect could be developed for Wuppertal’s citizens.
In addition, the E/D/E is also significantly committed to the Wuppertal’s Kunst- & Museumsverein [art and museum society], to the Wuppertaler Hilfe für Kinder von Tschernobyl [Wuppertal association to provide aid to the children of Chernobyl], the TiC-Theater in Cronenberg, the Akademie Bauen & Wohnen [academy of construction and living] and many other facilities. The support of the “Zwergenland” kindergarten on the premises of the E/D/E should be mentioned just as much as the start-up financing of the important restoration of Knight Arnold von Elberfeld on what is today’s administrative building in Elberfeld.
The employees of the E/D/E are also socially committed. In this way, the family-run company organises a gift campaign at Christmas, through which E/D/E employees fulfil children's wishes. The children create coupons, on which they write their wishes. The stars and snowflakes are then hung on large Christmas trees in the foyer of the E/D/E headquarters as Christmas decorations. E/D/E employees remove these have filled the wishes. At a Christmas party at E/D/E, they present these gifts to the children, for example, from the Wuppertal Notaufnahme or the Diakonie Wuppertal. The children’s Notaufnahme is a refuge for children, who are in acute situations of need or crises. You can see an overview of the E/D/E Christmas donations in 2012 here.
For eight years, the E/D/E has also supported the “Projekt Australien” at the Gymnasium Bayreuther Straße. Through this, a trip has been co-financed for a group of school children to the partner school of Darwin High School on the 5th continent. The project acts as a cultural exchange between Australia and Germany as well as intensive language promotion for young people. We are really excited that the “Projekt Indien” has also existed since this year. This school trip is also supported financially by the E/D/E. In total, 24 students have received the opportunity to take part in the project and be able to travel to India for twelve days. In the Indian capital of New Delhi, they will meet Indian students from Delhi Public School. In two groups, each consisting of half German and half Indian students, they will get to know the city. The project is intended to promote cultural relations between Germany and India.
