Closely networked, strongly committed: E/D/E focuses on qualified training and promoting education in the region

Shortly before the end of the current school year, many students are once again faced with the question: What apprenticeship would I like to do after graduating next year? This is because the “hot” phase of deciding on an attractive employer begins shortly after school-leaving certificates are awarded in the summer. One of the largest companies and therefore an important training company in the Bergisch city-triangle is Einkaufsbüro Deutscher Eisenhändler in Wuppertal – with a total of around 1100 employees, E/D/E is active in 30 European countries. As a third-generation family business, the buying association is also strongly committed to promoting education in the region.
Wuppertal
– E/D/E is an important company for Wuppertal as a business location. With its international orientation, the buying association offers a wide range of career opportunities. In addition to the ongoing development of its own employees, particular attention is paid to E/D/E’s junior staff. “An important goal for us as a family business is to train young people for our own company and to continue to employ them even after they have successfully completed their final exams,” emphasizes Bettina Jakobi, Managing Director of Personnel at E/D/E. The company offers a total of 13 different apprenticeships and dual study courses – a mix of training and study. E/D/E places particular emphasis on practice-oriented vocational training and individual support: not only do the trainees pass through various departments, they also have the opportunity to work on their own projects from the outset, can complete many tasks independently and are an integral part of the E/D/E family from the very beginning.
As a European provider of services and systems for the industrial B2B/industrial B2B sector, the training company also offers a wide range of employment opportunities and specialist areas – from logistics, personnel, marketing and IT to purchasing, sales, controlling and even banking.
Wanted: A meaningful job with a future
Young applicants in particular are looking very closely at their potential employer these days. Bettina Jakobi is also aware of this: “The young generation wants meaningful work above all else. That’s why we offer our trainees their own projects, which they manage and take responsibility for independently,” reports Bettina Jakobi. One example is the Instagram channel “ede_ausbildung”, where E/D/E Group trainees regularly share impressions of their day-to-day work at E/D/E as well as tips and tricks on the topics of applications and job interviews. With a broad-based project on the topic of biodiversity, the trainees are making a contribution to ecological added value.
Regional commitment: focus on promoting education
Qualified training starts before you even enter the world of work. This is why E/D/E and the E/D/E Foundation have been committed to promoting education in the region for many years. There is a very close connection with the University of Wuppertal, as E/D/E awards German scholarships and thus provides financial support for high-performing and socially committed young talent. “With our commitment, we are making a contribution to ensuring that young people have the same opportunities in the early stages of their professional careers – regardless of their social background,” says Dr. Sören Kiefer, Head of E/D/E AKADEMIE – an industry-specific further training offer for employees as well as for E/D/E business partners. In addition, E/D/E is currently making a financial contribution to a professorship at the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Wuppertal, thus helping to expand the university’s academic spectrum.
Whether in childcare facilities or in leisure activities, E/D/E and the E/D/E Foundation are committed to creating and maintaining educational opportunities in the Wuppertal region that are accessible to all. For example, the E/D/E Foundation is one of the three founding partners of Junior Uni Wuppertal, a unique teaching facility for children and young people aged four to 20. In E/D/E’s own day-care center “EDEfanten”, a special support concept is pursued in cooperation with the provider Kita|Concept. “In our donation activities, our focus is on institutions, facilities and projects that support disadvantaged children and young people,” emphasizes Jennifer Probst, who, as E/D/E’s sustainability officer, is responsible for donations and sponsorship, among other things.
