Digitalization and sustainability as an industry trend

Climate-neutral building components and smart digital tools are just a few examples of the numerous innovations with which E/D/E contract suppliers contributed to the major industry trends of sustainability and digitalization at the successful re-launch of BAU in Munich.

The world’s leading trade fair for architecture, building materials and construction systems celebrated its comeback in April (not in January as usual and will continue to do so in future) after a corona-related break of four years instead of two. Messe München, the organizer, was highly satisfied with the new record figures for exhibitors (2260 from 49 countries) and 190,000 visitors. E/D/E Construction Division Manager Michael Hatke agreed with the positive assessment: “The atmosphere and the flow of information were good. In addition to many useful developments at product level, it became clear how the sector has changed overall. Almost an entire hall was devoted exclusively to software solutions.”

One thing is clear: the construction industry is also becoming more digital, along the entire process chain. Many E/D/E member companies are making great strides in this area and are well positioned, not least thanks to the association’s interface and data management solutions. Manufacturers are also investing in smart solutions to make life easier for the PVH, building owners and processors. “The Arbonia Group has presented a particularly far-reaching solution,” reports Christian Zenk, Head of Supplier / Product Group Management Building Components at E/D/E.

Arbonia‘s digital portal is a big hit
Arbonia’s new digital portal not only enables the planning, visualization and configuration of doors from the Group’s PRÜM and Garant brands. It also integrates products from subsidiaries and shareholdings, opening up an entire ecosystem of doors, fittings and locking technology to users. The response from visitors was outstanding, says Arbonia Managing Director Markus Sprick: “The portal was a big hit at our stand and was constantly frequented.”

Hörmann: CO2-neutral building components
Climate protection and circular construction were the main topics of many discussions at the trade fair. E/D/E supplier Hörmann presented itself as a pioneer with its new initiative: As the first building components manufacturer to do so, all products for residential construction are CO2-neutral as standard. Products for commercial construction in Germany are optionally available as CO2-neutral on customer request. Hörmann calculates the CO2 balance for all of the Group’s manufacturing companies in the European economic area in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and uses 100 percent green electricity in its European plants to avoid emissions. Emissions that cannot yet be avoided are certified in cooperation with ClimatePartner.

A triad of good design
With the addition of the Les Couleurs Le Corbusier color scheme to its portfolio, hardware manufacturer FSB is opening up new design options for its customers. Previously, the E/D/E supplier only offered consistency in terms of material and shape, but now color has been added to this, making the triad perfect. The new timeless color palette comprises 63 coordinated shades inspired by the colors of nature, ranging from wall paint, furniture and switches to doors and window profiles.

A sliding door that keeps out
Kitchen odors, steam and draughts: With the PLANEO AIR SILENT, GRIFFWERK has developed a tightly closing glass sliding door with a soft-close system. This is made possible by side-mounted rubber lips that are integrated into the narrow, all-round aluminum profile. It is not necessary to modify the door reveal. There is also no need for an additional slide-in system, so the purist look is retained. PLANEO AIR SILENT is comparable to a wooden door in terms of sound insulation.

Fast installation for standard rosettes
The SchnellstiFTPlus installation technology from hardware manufacturer HOPPE is now also available for fittings and standard rosettes. With this technology, the E/D/E supplier from Switzerland offers a decisive installation advantage: both handle and key rosettes can be installed quickly and without screws – self-adhesive or pluggable. The continuous support cams of the handle and key rosettes each consist of a pin and a sleeve made of glass fiber-reinforced plastic. Sliding them into each other results in a stable fastening with no play.

New app shortens order processing
The new NovoSite app from door and gate manufacturer Novoferm is designed to make work easier for site and project managers as well as (measurement) technicians in future: technical clarification can be prepared easily and clearly and measurements can be carried out particularly efficiently. The app automatically creates the order, commission and item lists from the prepared Novoferm door lists and links the stored floor plan with the respective products.

Measurement routes can be planned in advance on the construction site. The dimensions measured on site can be digitally transferred to the app using Bluetooth rangefinders and are automatically compared with the planned dimensions: This minimizes the time required, the error rate and the associated follow-up costs. Exporting the measurement data and floor plans also simplifies further processing. The Novo Site app will be launched on the market in the second quarter of 2023.

Teckentrup: Partnership with Schüco
Teckentrup, which claims to be one of the largest European manufacturers of doors and gates, will in future realize complete solutions in the contract business from a single source: the E/D/E supplier from Verl is now expanding its range of interior doors with the flexible tubular profile system from Schüco. The modern aluminum system combines light-oriented architecture with a high level of fire and smoke protection. “It is important to our customers to obtain all products from a single source,” reports Christian Hanke, Head of Marketing and Sales at Teckentrup, “our regular rounds of questions with our partners have clearly shown this. With Schüco, we have a strong partner at our side with whom we can optimally fulfill this customer requirement.”

“A warm welcome
Among architects, FENIX is already an established name for matt surfaces. The doors from E/D/E supplier Westag have become an integral part of exclusive interior design. Under the title “A warm welcome”, the FENIX DOORS collection with 14 powerful plain and metal colors is now celebrating its premiere at BAU 2023. Westag claims to be the only manufacturer to offer doors and frames with the unique FENIX surface – combinable with all functions from wet room to fire protection. [daf/lst]
