E/D/E trainees design beeswax candles for a good cause

As part of the E/D/E sustainability project “Bees on our premises”, some E/D/E trainees and dual students created candles in a workshop and then offered them to employees for a small donation. The proceeds collected were doubled by the E/D/E Foundation and went to the Burgholz children’s hospice.

In mid-2024, five beehives belonging to a beekeeper, who is also an E/D/E employee, had already moved onto the E/D/E site. Under his guidance, the E/D/E junior staff learned about the fascinating world of honey bees in an exciting workshop and made their own candles from beeswax.

The trainees came up with another special idea during the workshop: the beeswax candles they had designed themselves could be purchased by employees in return for a small donation. As the trainees wanted to support families in difficult times in the region, they chose the Bergisches Kinder- und Jugendhospiz Burgholz as the recipient. They then handed over the collected proceeds in person.

E/D/E and the E/D/E Foundation think such a commitment is great: “Making the decision not to keep something you have designed yourself, but to donate it to a good cause, deserves special recognition and shows on a small scale that our junior staff have the right convictions and are happy to take on social responsibility responsibility,” says Dr. Eugen Trautwein, Chairman of the E/D/E Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “That’s why we at the E/D/E Foundation have decided to double the donation amount.”
