WUPPER-RING: Heating market

Mastering complexity

The challenges in the heating market continue to increase as a result of the energy transition. WUPPER-RING offers its members a range of measures to ensure that they can meet the increasing legal and technical requirements and continue to operate successfully.

The new complexity of the heating market results from the end date for the use of fossil fuels – as of today, it is 2045. In addition, new legislation stipulates an obligation to provide advice from 2024: Every end customer who has been using fossil fuels up to now and wants to refurbish their heating system must be informed in detail about the effects of the conversion and how municipal heating planning could affect their project. The craftsman of today must be able to advise in many ways. In-depth expertise is also required for the assessment of buildings that are to be retrofitted. In addition to the classic replacement of the heat generator, there are other aspects that need to be considered: How good is the condition of the building? Which energy source will be the right one for the building in future? What is the relationship between the costs and benefits of the new system?

Networking and advice

WUPPER-RING’s answer to new requirements is networking and advice. Networking between industry, experts and members is being intensified so that tradespeople can make the right decision for the right heating system and distributors can provide them with the tools to do so. “Given the demands of the market, it is difficult for a single person to provide the necessary knowledge. It is becoming increasingly important to know the relevant expert for the respective areas of application who can provide support,” emphasizes Daniel Lorenz, the product manager responsible for the heating sector at E/D/E.

Event formats with the industry and network meetings are also planned. Particular emphasis will be placed on workshops dealing with questions such as how a supplier can set itself apart from the competition and which services can offer added value for specialist tradespeople.

A series of training courses

A series of training courses established last year will be continued this year. After Daniel Lorenz provided information on the background to energy policy in the first workshops, he took his audience on a virtual construction site in further training sessions. For example, it showed what information needs to be collected in order to assess the condition of a building, how heat generators and heat pumps in particular should be dimensioned and which tools can help the industry to do this.

Building on this basis, further training courses will be more detailed; the focus will now be on topics such as hydraulic balancing, the evaluation and comparison of different heat generators and the expansion of further advisory skills. What is important to Daniel Lorenz is the practical relevance of the industry’s involvement in the training courses. The target group here is primarily technical salespeople and those who want to become one. WUPPER-RING members will be notified of the dates for all event and networking formats.
